Locomotive Obscurities explores in the relationship of collapsibility and mathematical environments. My original plan allowed the sculpture to experience the conservation of volume through the elongation and compression of the axes of length and height; but, the piece splintered apart due to the structural instability of its rough lumber components. However, this was not a failure – I was intrigued by the rhythmic quality of the peaks of the resultant form, which informed my interest in creating sculpture of sporadic kinetic elements.
